Credit Text Message Anyone?

There is no reason not to know what’s going on in your credit card account. Almost all companies have optional text reminders that can help you. Of course, it’s sometimes a little scary or depressing to know exactly what’s going on in your account, but knowledge is power!

Until you are knowledgeable about your finances, you will never be able to control them.

One of the (many) things I love about Capital One is their text message alerts.

Everyday around 6:30 AM, I get a text message from Capital One, detailing my credit card balance. Why every morning? Because just recently I paid it off, and seeing a text message every morning that says my balance is zero, is astonishing to me.

Now, fast forward a few months, when I use the same credit card for a purchase, and I get a text that says my balance is $141.60. Do I like to see that? No. Do I get all happy inside? No. Not like that zero balance text. But this means that I don’t just forget that I have a balance that needs to be paid.

I’m conscious of my finances, because I stare at them every morning from my inbox.

Along with keeping me up to date on my balance, using the text reminder system enables me to know when my card is being used. So when I make a purchase, I immediately I get a text telling me how much I spent, and where. This means that, if someone else uses my card, I still receive that text message, and can detect fraudulent activity that much quicker!

Time is of the essence when it comes to identity theft, and this is a great way to keep on top of any strange activity in your account.

Credit card companies and banks have so many resources to make sure that you are knowledgeable and aware of your finances; take advantage of them!
