Can I move my payment date?

Can you bargain with your creditors to have your payment date moved?

Provided that you have maintained a semi-good relationship ,  it’s completely possible.

The bottom line for all creditors is that they just want to get paid back the money you borrowed. If that means moving a payment to accommodate your pay schedule, they will do their best to work with you. Working with you, instead of against you, means they’ll get paid with less hassle.

Make sure you have all your information together before you call. There’s nothing like getting on the phone with someone you want a favor from, and then scrambling to have the information they need. Because remember,  that is exactly what this is: a favor. You agreed to pay your creditor X amount on Y day, and now you asking to change that agreement.

Make sure you have:

1. Your social security number
2. Your last statement
3. Your on time payment history (make sure you have been on time at
least 85% of the time)
4. The date you would like with an alternate date for negotiating
5. An open mind

Be nice, respectful, and remember your manners. Remember, you are asking for a favor. Has anyone ever had a creditor tell them no?
